Good Friends, Good Times! (and the adventures of Lexi)

Last week Tim had his national sales meeting in Denver and I was lucky enough to spend some time down in Houston.  (Did I mention I LOVE working for myself)  My trip got a little delayed due to my cold, but I still got there in plenty of time.  The delay actually turned out to be good, because I ended up super busy with work most of Monday and Tuesday.  Tuesday afternoon I began my adventure.  I didn't do a great job of taking pictures, but here is a little week-end summary.

My first stop was in Cypress with Brittany.  It had been way too long since we were together!  Dinner was awesome, and so was catching up.  I miss her! ... and am super excited she is now only a drive away, instead of a long flight. We definitely have to make these plans more often.   I didn't get to meet Hank, but hopefully next trip.  After we wrapped up dinner, she visited with Lexi in the car.  Brittany is a Vet, which has been a great perk for my 1000 questions.  It is always nice having a friend who is an 'expert'.  She will probably get annoyed with me soon.

Lexi has been having some eye issues, and will be visiting an Dogie Opthamalogist in the morning.  Please pray that everything goes well.  She is 8, and should have about 8 more good years in her.  I am really praying she doesn't start having vision issues.  I owe a HUGE thanks to Brittany for making me realize Lexi's issues need to be addressed quickly and writing a referral letter to the specialist.  She saved us an extra Vet trip (and bill).  Thanks Dr. King!

Tuesday night Lex and I got into Clear Lake super late.  Luckily Judy waited up for us.  I am constantly surprised at the things Lex remembers.  As soon as we turned on my in-laws street she immediately started squeaking. She knew where we were & she was excited!  After visiting a while, we headed up stairs and she remembers which room is ours.  Then in the morning, she immediately knows where to go find her toys.  Lexi definitely enjoyed her time at Gram & Papa's house! I'm sure she can't wait to show Lincoln around.

After visiting with Jim and Judy on Wednesday morning, Lexi and I headed over to meet EJ around lunch time.  It is really nice that my in-laws and the Samples only live about 2 miles apart! Lex and I were so excited to meet this guy:

How could anyone not love him???

Let me re-phrase... I was excited.  Lexi may have been a little jealous.  She is used to having Eric's undivided attention.  Such a brat!

Later that night we headed over to Maite's parents house to celebrate Jesus' birthday.  Andy took more pictures, but this is the only one on FB so far.... HAPPY BIRTHDAY JESUS!
(which sounds really funny to be saying right after Christmas)

As always, it was a great night full of laughs at the Quiros house.  I love catching up with Maite's family.  (and giving her siblings a hard time) Lexi enjoyed playing with Gabby and Shacki.  I can't believe Jesus is 22 and Andy is in college!  I wish I was better at scanning and saving pictures.  The ones from when they were tiny & visiting us in the dorms are awesome.

Dinner was amazing, and followed by a night of intense Rummy Cube.  Seriously, don't mess with Maria!  We learned at dinner that Abi (Maite's Grandma, who looks 40) is now in English classes!  I have spent a decent amount of time visiting and 'communicating' with Abi through the years, but neither of us has ever spoken very much of the other's language.  It will be cool to eventually be able to have a full conversation!

I initially went down to Houston with the idea in my head that I would be helping Maite & Eric.  In reality, I was a mere spectator in this amazing system they have going on.  I feel like the trip worked more to my benefit than theirs.  I really had no idea what to expect with a baby/breastfeeding, but I have learned it is a full time job!  It took us several hours to get EJ to the perfect place in the feeding/pumping cycle to go on a short walk... but check out this picture, it is so worth it!
I really appreciate Maite and Eric letting me spectate and learn all kinds of important things.  I now realize that I must block off at least 2 months of the work schedule following Lincoln's arrival.  There is simply no time in the feeding rotation to do much of anything else!

Thursday night Maite and Eric had a lactation class, so I got to spend some extra time with Jim & Judy.   We went to a delicious Italian dinner and I got all caught up on Judy's new job.  It sounds like a perfect fit!  She will be working with pre-term labor patients, and probably be full of all kinds of pregnancy knowledge.  Jim is enjoying retirement & had a great time with Lexi!  I definitely think she enjoyed being center of attention at their house!

When I got back to Maite's we rented "I don't know how she does it!"  Maite was asleep half way through, and I wasn't far behind her.  Sorry Eric for choosing a chic-flick and both passing out!  Tim would say Typical.

Friday morning I left early to get back in time to get Tim from the airport in Dallas.  For possibly the first time ever, I was early.  I was then rewarded for my promptness by delayed baggage claim.  At least I was able to work from my phone in the parking lot.  Lexi and I were very excited to have Tim back in town.  She is usually really good about knowing when she is and isn't allowed to jump out of the car, but when she saw him, there was no stopping her.  She loves her daddy! Here she is taking advantage of being an "only child' when we got back to the house.

Wedged as close as possible between Dad & Mom.

Friday night we had double date night with Bara.  First night out with them since their wedding!  We ate at a delicious Asian place called Yao Fuzzi.  For some reason I kept telling Tim we were eating at a place called "Yummi to go".  I have no idea where that came from.  Anyone heard of a restaurant by that name, or did I just make it up?  Anyway, dinner was way better than what Tim had expected based on my description.  After dinner we saw Contraband.  Great movie.  Tim is getting me into his guy movies and refusing to go to chic flicks because I just fall asleep.  Sad, but true.

Saturday was Granny Ruth's 87th Birthday Party.  All 5 of her kids made it in town, and a handful of Grand kids and Great Grand kids.  The Watermark Clubhouse was a great place for a party.  Granny loved introducing everyone and having so much of her family in town to celebrate with her!

Two Watermark friends, Granny Ruth, Carl and Laura

 Ross!

My brothers and I with Grandpa Bill.
He is doing awesome post leg injury!

After the party we headed over to see Granny Jonny.  She had a pretty good day.  She got out of her room for a little bit and said Love you too when I left :)

Dad, Granny Jonny, and Clint.

On our way home from Granbury, we made a quick stop at Southside to celebrate Pryor's Birthday.  Southside Lofts are super cool.  It was our first time there and Tim and I were both impressed.  I was mostly impressed with how clean his apartment was for a single guy.  Ladies, this is what you are looking for!

The hilight of the party was when I met a new friend, who was an epidemiologist, and proceded to tell her how I was just talking to someone the other day about how they were an epidemiologist.  It took Tim and I a few min. to figure out who it was.  A girl on the Bachelor... Who rapped about it.  Yes, I talk about girls on the Bachelor like they are friends.  New Low. Ridiculous.

We had hoped to meet up with Jonny and Kelly later to celebrate their one year anniversary, but we didn't make it.  I was one exhausted pregnant lady, with a starving, football deprived, husband.  Luckily we made up for it on Sunday.

Jonny and Tim spent most of Sunday afternoon watching football and Kelly and I took advantage of the beautiful weather at the dog park.  I don't think Lexi left my side for a week.  She seriously went everywhere, including the Saturday parties!  Here she is living it up at the dog park.

Sunday night we had an impromptu gourmet dinner.  Bara, Jonny and Kelly came over.  Cooking was a fun team effort. We started with a Cheese plate and Tomato Basil Souffle.  The main course was Salad, Bread, Rosemary Potatoes, Pinwheel Steak, and Chicken Cranberry and Walnut Sausage.  Then we finished things up with Chocolate Fondue.  I was stuffed.  I love these dinner nights.  We must get more consistent.  Kelly took pictures of all the food, but as usual I am having technical difficulties.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful week.  I will try to post soon about the results of Lexi's eye exam!  Thanks for keeping her in your prayers!

New Job, New Year, things are changing quick around here!

I am kicking myself for not taking before and after pictures around here.  In the past two weeks, we have totally moved and re-done the guest room.  We are in the process of putting together all of my office furniture.... and we still have a ton to do in the Nursery and Play Room.

This is how Tim decided to paint Jonny's room
(aka the new Guest Room)

Why would anyone want to wear clothes while painting?  That would just make for more to clean up.  There is never a dull moment around here.

This week marked the first week of Tim and I both working from home.  We are learning spacial boundaries, but overall it went better than expected.  Tim does still expect to be brought meals if I am here, but Lexi has proven to be the neediest by far.  Poor baby sits and stares at me like this all day long :(

She can't seem to figure out why I am home, but not loving on her all day.  She has tried on several occasions to sit in my lap when I work, and decides she wants to go outside or needs food about every 15 minutes.  What is she going to do when Baby gets here???

So far working for myself is going really well.  I figured out early on that I need to stay on my schedule.   It would be really easy to go to classes at the gym at 8:30 every day, do a quiet time and then run errands until noon, but that wouldn't be great for business.  I am making myself get to my desk no later than 9 and working until at least 4.  I will probably become more flexible with my guidelines, but for now, I need a routine.

Luckily in parting with Doug, he gave me several of my cases to continue working.  I have also been fortunate enough to pick up several cases on the side.  (3 new ones this week!)  I am working on some business marketing, etc. and will probably become the annoying Facebook advertiser sometime towards the end of February.  Get ready!

Now for the fun stuff!

Last weekend was NYE.  We had a fun, laid back evening, with two of our favorite couples.  For some reason we don't have a group shot, but here are the couple pics!

The Stephens
 The Cronenworth's
 ...and Us

We went out to dinner, then back to the Stephens' to play some Clue.  We are Wild and Crazy... Watch out!  It was the perfect way to spend New Years.  I wouldn't mind making it a tradition!

In other news, my baby bump is finally starting to show a little!  I got asked for the first time on Tuesday (by someone who didn't know) if I was pregnant.  Bring on the stretch pants and long sweaters.

This weekend has been the calmest one we have had in a long time.  We are enjoying hanging around the house and scrubbing it.  I should probably put some makeup on for dinner tonight!  I am trying to kick the last of a sinus infection.  I am supposed to be heading to Houston on Monday to meet EJ and spend some time with Maite, Eric, Brittany and the Davis', but I gotta get rid of this junk first.  I'm pretty pumped about the trip.  This drainage is not going to get me down!

Can't wait to blog next weekend about all my fun Houston adventures.  Be warned, it will probably be all about EJ.  Just a preview of what this blog is going to look like come June!

2011 Part IV

I will finish this!
10. Sara's Bachelorette
No update on Barry's Vegas Bachelor Party b/c Boys don't take pictures...
11. Thanksgiving
12. Gender Reveal Party
13. Bara Wedding
14. Christmas

10. Sara's Bachelorette marked my first Preg-o nights out.  There were supposed to be two others there, but due to technical difficulties they were unable to make it.  Minus my issue with smoke, the weekend turned out to be Awesome and I got to participate in almost everything.

Friday night we headed out to Pour House, an old favorite.  There was a great band and fun was had by all.  Some of the single girls had picked up a group of guys before Jessica, Kelly and I got there.  We sat down and began talking to the group when we arrived.  Apparently one of the guys started asking Jessica about me, to which she replied she is married.  Sadly, this did not deter the guy... but the she is 3 months pregnant did the trick. Some people's boundaries are scary, but I must say, it did make me feel a little more confident about looking a little pudgier than normal at the bar.

Sara living it up on stage!
Paige and her new BFFs rapping country Music :)

The next morning we woke up at a decent hour and Kelly, Kassidy and I went for a long run.  The run through downtown and on the river made me remember everything I love about Ft. Worth.  I think I had both of them wanting to move there by the time we were done :)

The whole group went to a late brunch at Taverna.  It was amazing.  Then we did a little Sundance Square shopping and got rested up for the evening.  Unfortunately I didn't take many pictures the second night. We had a lingerie shower, then headed to Reata Rooftop for our first round of drinks.

After drinks we headed to Cantina Laredo where I had the best "virgin" Mango Margarita that I have had so far.  We will be going back.  The girls spent the rest of the night at Pete's and 8.0.  Pete's got a little to smokey for me, so Jill and I headed back early.  I hear the fun continued to late in the night.

A weekend in FW is never complete without a trip to Joe T's.  Who knew the served breakfast?  Everyone got in one last cheat meal and then we headed home.  Celebrating Sara was wonderful as were all of the girls who came out to make her night special!  It is always fun when you have a great group at a bachelorette party and all get to meet up a month later for an awesome wedding!

I hear the boys trip was just as great.  Unfortunately, they don't document like girls, so I don't have any pictures.  From what I understand the weekend was blast and Jonny had the more game than any other guy in Vegas :)

11. Thanksgiving this year was a little different.  Jenny knew traveling at Christmas was not going to be an option, so we they were trying to get family time in with both sides in one holiday.  Jill stepped up and offered to throw Ginormous Thanksgiving at her house.  She is a brave soul.  Everything turned out great.

Jim and Judy came in town on Wednesday and were here through Saturday.  We had actual Thanksgiving on Thursday at Jill and Jarred's house with both extended families.  Usually, Thanksgiving goes to the Davis' and the Thomas' get Christmas, but since we were in town, we got to swing by my parents house too. It was nice being able to share the Holiday with both families.
Jeff, Jenny and Cam spent Wednesday through Friday at our house, which was awesome.  Friday night we got to take Cam to go see the Christmas Lights in Frisco and have dinner outside in the square.  (Unfortunately Judy was sick, so Jim and Judy stayed home)  I was impressed with the light show, and the fake snow that fell on us as we sat outside and ate.  Frisco is a fun experience.  Hopefully we will take our little one there next year!

The one thing we missed out on this year was visiting the Haugen's.  Lena and her BF Jason were in town and we had hoped to make it to Austin, but with a fully filled weekend, and having no preg-o energy, we couldn't make it happen.  Luckily we are planning on heading to NYC for my 30th and she is planning on joining us!

Speaking of NYC, we finally got to meet Andy Coelen and Lauren Meyers!  Christie and Nate were in Dallas and we all met up at Melissa and Rob's Sunday afternoon.  Check out these cute faces!  Baby Davis already has friends waiting on him to get here!

For some reason I was being my super awkward self, and didn't announce that we were expecting while we were all hanging out.  Instead, I decided to wait until we were leaving, and it was freezing cold outside, to tell Christie and Nate.  Then Tim made fun of me the whole way home.  Why do I do weird things?  Typical.

12.  The weekend after Thanksgiving Judy, Jenny and Cam came back in town for Jenny's Sprinkle. Timing worked perfectly with out sonogram, so we decided to have a Gender Reveal Party Friday night.

We went to the Dr. Friday morning and she was able to tell the gender.  Instead of finding out there, we had the Dr. call a bakery and tell them the gender.  That night we invited family and some close friends over to find out with us.  Our friends and family were asked to wear Blue or Pink depending on weather they thought we were having a boy or a girl.  Everyone (minus 3 Aggies) showed up in blue.  We had a neutral colored cake with icing filling either blue or pink... accordingly.  Cutting into the cake was such a fun surprise.  It was special to have three of the Grandparents, family and close friend with us when we found out.

It's a BOY!

Saturday, we headed over to Jill's for Jenny's Cookies and Milk shower.  As always, Jill out did herself.  the decorations were awesome and there were so many different types of cookies.  Yum!  I think everyone is ready to meet Baby Collins!  Hope she gets here soon!

13. Bara Wedding!  It is always fun when Two of your best friends get married.  Tim and I go to a lot of weddings, and most of them are Awesome, but there is something special when you are good friends with the Bride and the Groom.  This weddings was one of those situations where Tim and I are close to Barry and Sara and couldn't be more excited for them to start their married life together!

This is the only picture I took that weekend :(  The boys were troopers while shopping! (look at the store they agreed to go in!)

The rest of these are stolen from FB...

Here is the Awesome sign we found on our Friday night FREEZING cold walk to dinner.
Barry is an awesome (to scale) map maker :)

14. Christmas!!!! I can't believe I am doing my last 2011 post! (on the first day of 2012)

This Christmas started off with a bang at the Thomas house.  I got a call from my mom one morning asking if I had ever heard of the song Grandma Got Ran Over by a Reindeer? Well... your Grandpa just ran himself over with a car.  I have always thought of Grandpa Bill ans one of the thoughest people I know, but after this incident, there is no question.

On a trip back to Abilene to visit with friends and check on his house Grandpa had a little accident.  He pulled up to his house, put the car in park (so the thought) and got out.  Apparently the car was still in reverse and immediately started to roll backwards.  The open door hit him, knocked him down, and the car ran over his right leg.

Luckily the car hit a curb across the street without wrecking.  Then, like any other 87 year old, Grandpa got up (cussing I'm sure) got in the car and went to lunch with his old law partner.  Apparently on his way out of town he thought maybe he should stop by the hospital... where he was admitted for a week.  Luckily Billy only lives about 45 min from Abilene, so he got there quickly.  There were no broken bones, but doctors were really worried about blood clots.  The pictures of his leg are pretty rough.

Cril and Jake headed to Abilene the next day to help out while Billy went to work.  About a week later, Grandpa came back to Arlington and has been staying at Clint's house.  Jake is his chauffeur back and fourth to his daily Dr. appointments in Weatherford.  Who would have thought Weatherford would be the only place in the metroplex with the special pressurized machine he needs?  I think grandpa has enjoyed his time at Clint's, but should be heading back to Grandbury soon.

Meanwhile, my mom has been spending a lot of time in Granbury.  Granny Johnny has Alzheimer's and has to be coaxed into eating every day.  Grandpa usually spends a large portion of the day with her, but since he has been out of commission, my Mom is out there daily.  It is a job my mom excels at and compares to working with her special needs kids.  She finds different ways to trick Granny into eating, and Granny comes up with all kinds of amusing stories to tell her while she is there.  The week before Christmas she turned to my mom and told her " You sure are a good looking Guy".  I think it made my mom's day :)

The rest of our Christmas festivities were spent with extended family and exciting as usual.  Our first celebration was in Smithville with the Bedgood Family :)  It is always fun to get everyone together and see all the new babies!  I love that there are so many cousins and everyone still comes to family Christmas.  It is always great to catch up and spend a day out in the country.

We celebrated Christmas Eve at Connect Church in Arlington, and as usual, had friends and family over to my parents house after church for Mexican Dinner.  Christmas Morning we did immediate family presents then had the extended Thomas Family over and Granny Ruth.  We were missing a few people, but still had a great time!  Here is our annual Thomas Family Photo!

I can't believe I have reached the end of 2011 blogging.  2012 will start with a NYE post.  My Blogging resolution is to update at least once a week so I don't have to ever spend this much time in one week on this thing again.  I love having a 'scrapbook' but it is definitely time consuming!

I hope everyone reading this had an awesome Holiday Season and end to 2011.  Here is to 2012 being even better!
